Okay...
I have a confession to make....
I'm supposed to be crunchy. And I'm supposed to love things like raw milk and European style yogurt now, right?
Not right.
I'm a little ashamed to admit it!!!
But here's the thing: I hate milk. I like it as an ingredient. I think it makes the most delicious sauces, beverages, and side dish to a good plate of brownies.
And yogurt I don't even like as an INGREDIENT.
So today, for the very first time, I tried raw milk.
My honest synopsis? It was good. Admittedly better than any other milk I've ever had.
But it was still milk.
And milk is just kind of gross.
Maybe over time, I'll develop a taste for it. But as of today, I'm still not a fan.
I also tried the yogurt. And it was sour and had the inexplicable taste to it that I can only describe as unpleasant. Even Lincoln wasn't a fan, and I put bananas in it!!
I'll probably wind up using the yogurt in smoothies for me and Lincoln, especially as summer shows it's face with all Her delicious fruits. And I'm going to try adding some sweet, crunchy granola into the mix.
The fact is, I think it's good to down those probiotics as much as you can stomach! But it's going to be a long, hard journey to rewire my mind to taste yogurt and milk and think delicious as opposed to goodies and sweets!
I am so glad to be on the other side of the raw milk fence though. I've finally chosen a side, and I'm so excited!!
The milk consumption in this home isn't too much to write home about. So it'll be a bit of a dent in the pocket book. But nothing we can't manage.
I know the cost will grow as Lincoln begins drinking milk (fairly soon here!!!), but I think the benefits are so so worth it!! And the taste is something I don't think my little boy should have to compromise on!
Now, let's just work on getting him to enjoy those weird, sour, funky tastes!!
Yay!!! I'm so proud of you!! I used to hate yogurt too but man do I love that European style in a yogurt bowl: http://riversidehomestead.blogspot.com/2012/12/yogurt-bowls.html?m=1
